Terms of use
The licence, in plain language.
You pay once and the app is yours to use. These terms say what that covers, what you are responsible for, and what we promise and do not promise. They are written to be read, not skimmed past.
1. The licence
When you unlock NoteHand, BITSUMMIT Corporation ("we") grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the app on Macs that you own or control, for as long as you like. The price is a one-time payment. There is no subscription, no renewal and no recurring fee.
Purchases through the Mac App Store are tied to your Apple ID and can be restored on any Mac signed in with it. The licence is for one person. A colleague needs their own.
You may not sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the app, remove its notices, or attempt to work around the unlock. The app's code, design and name remain ours.
2. Free meetings
You may record your first three meetings with every feature switched on before you decide to buy. No account and no payment details are needed for that. Everything you recorded during the free meetings stays on your Mac and remains yours whether or not you unlock.
3. Mac App Store purchases
If you got the app from the Mac App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement also applies, and where it conflicts with these terms, Apple's terms govern the purchase itself. Apple is not responsible for the app or for providing support for it; we are.
4. Your responsibilities
Consent. Recording laws differ by country, state and province. You are responsible for knowing the rules where you and the other participants are, and for getting whatever consent they require before you record. The app asks you to confirm this during setup and does not announce itself to the other people on a call.
Your files. The recordings, transcripts and notes the app produces are yours and stay on your Mac. Backing them up, sharing them appropriately and keeping them confidential is up to you. We cannot see them and cannot recover them.
Your API keys. If you connect your own OpenAI or Anthropic key, you are responsible for that account, its charges and its terms.
5. Third-party services
By default the app uses no third-party service during a call. If you choose to use your own OpenAI or Anthropic key for notes and Coach, transcript text is sent to that provider under your account and is governed by their terms and privacy policy, not ours. Audio is never sent to anyone. Speech recognition uses Whisper models that run on your Mac; the model file is downloaded once from a public source.
6. Updates
Updates to the app are included in the price. We may add, change or remove features over time. If a future version changes what can leave your Mac, we will say so in the privacy policy, in the release notes and in the app before it ships.
7. Warranty and liability
The app is provided as is. Speech recognition and generated notes are automated and can be wrong; the transcript is the record and the notes are a reading of it. You should check anything that matters before you rely on it.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the app, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for it. Nothing in these terms limits rights that consumer law gives you and that cannot be excluded.
8. Refunds
Purchases made through the Mac App Store follow Apple's refund process, which you start from your Apple account. For the direct download, write to app.support@bitsummit.com and a person will reply.
9. Ending the licence
You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it. Your exported markdown files stay in your folder. We may end the licence if you breach these terms in a way that is not fixed after we ask. Because there is no account, ending the licence means we ask you to stop using the app; there is nothing of yours for us to switch off.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Where consumer protection law in your own country or province gives you additional rights, those rights are unaffected.
